some awesome news
Back on Christmas of 2011, Josh gave me a lovely present! It was a card
letting me know if I was ready for another baby, he was on board. Inside
(along with other sweet and sensitive stuff) he wrote that it was "one
coupon for a bundle of joy." I threw out my birth control the next day.
On February 19, I had the thought that I might be pregnant, but waited 2
more days to kind of make sure. The 21st I took a test and it came up
positive! To tell Josh the news, I found his beautiful card he gave me
on Christmas, and printed out a little "coupon" of my own saying,
"Coupon REDEEMED for one baby, confirmed as of Feb 21." Then I signed my
name at the bottom, taped it to the card, stuck the test (with lid on)
into the envelope so it was sticking out so you could clearly see it. I set it on our little kitchen mantle that is a holder of all things when Josh walks in the door.
Then I just waited for him to come home. He walked in the door, put his keys and wallet onto the little mantle, then walked to the bedroom. Walked RIGHT past it. Didn't even see it. Then a little later, he came back over and then noticed the card. "What's this?" He asked. I just looked at him, saying with my eyes just to read the thing. Then the light bulb went on in his head and you could see his face get all excited! It was awesome. He looked at me and said, "Are we? So you're... You're pregnant!?" Affirmative! We hugged and kissed, it was so happy!
As for everything else in our lives, we're making some changes there too. Josh graduated (HALLELUJAH!!) on May 21, and was offered a job at the University of Maryland to teach a couple classes as an adjunct faculty member. This a great opportunity for him to get some good teaching experience in, and be able to also do outside design work around the area. He'll start teaching in August. And so far he's got 2 design gigs lined up for the summer/fall. We're so happy things have started moving in that direction. It can be scary looking for free-lance work.
Since we'll be staying in the area and our lease was coming up, we figured it's time to look for somewhere else to live. We started the process of looking for a different apartment, condo, or town-home we liked and would be able to rent. We finally found a good one! Its about 10 min away from our current place. Its a little town-home on the corner lot with 3 bedrooms, and an unfinished basement. This will come in handy to help store all of our extra stuff (including all the stuff that was previously in Josh's office at school). We'll start packing up, and then we get the keys July 2. I will have to say good bye to our laundry man, Brad, our convenient pool access, and friends that live in our same complex, but we think its the right move. We were able to get it for the same price as our apartment, and its got more a little more living space, and a cute little patio in a shaded area that Josh can put his grill on.
We celebrated 8 years of marriage on Sunday, June 10. I am amazed how time flies. We watched our wedding video and laughed and cried, and just enjoyed spending the day together and as a family. I am so happy to have a wonderful husband to spend eternity with.
My work is still going well. I just got back from a wonderful vacation to Utah, and also had a couple days off here in MD to hang out with Josh. I'm back at the grindstone today, but feeling energized, excited, and hopeful for our future. We feel blessed each day by the Lord and are grateful to be together and enjoying the journey.
This Madsen family has some more changes coming down the road! Josh and I
found out in February we were expecting baby #2 into our family. We are
very excited!! We haven't kept it a huge secret, but just wanted to
wait to do the on-line update to the world until we knew if we're having
a boy or a girl.
So now, we are THRILLED to say, WE'RE HAVING A GIRL!! She's due October 30, 2012. I'm at 20 weeks right now, so half way there! We had the ultra-sound yesterday and I was honestly a little surprised. Josh really wanted a boy, but I was never really sure what I felt the baby's gender was. The day before the ultrasound Josh had me convinced it was a boy. So when the tech asked if we're ready to hear, and announced it was a girl, I'm pretty sure I screamed.
